Hollywood Actors to Join the Picket Lines

As reported by Reuters, a strike is imminent in Hollywood as actors prepare to join the ongoing picket lines of film and television writers, following the breakdown of negotiations with studios.

This joint strike, scheduled to commence at midnight on July 14, 2023, will significantly disrupt numerous shows and movies, marking the first dual work stoppage in the industry in 63 years. The economic impact of the writers' strike will be compounded by the actors' strike, dealing a further blow to an industry already grappling with the evolving landscape of streaming TV.

The demands put forth by both SAG-AFTRA, the largest union representing 160,000 actors, and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) include increased base pay and residuals in the streaming era, as well as guarantees that their work will not be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

At Outside Legal Counsel LLP, our team of attorneys can provide guidance to ensure that negotiations with employees complies with the NLRA.
