Pharma Giant Looks At Staff Stress

Having achieved success with their prominent weight-loss medications Ozempic and Wegovy, Novo Nordisk is now shifting its focus towards addressing stress among its own employees.

According to a survey, 14% of workers at the Danish pharmaceutical company experienced symptoms related to stress last year. CEO Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen expressed the goal of reducing this figure to below 10% during a shareholder meeting. In pursuit of this objective, the company is implementing 59 "wellness interventions," ranging from complimentary nutritious meals to on-site massages. Additionally, Novo Nordisk management continues to advocate for flexible and hybrid work arrangements, contrasting with the trend among other major corporations to return employees to traditional office settings.

Research indicates that a significant portion of American workers, three-quarters to be precise, report moderate to high levels of stress. Among the younger demographics, such as Gen Z and millennials, this proportion rises to 80%, as highlighted by Alight research. Moreover, a 2023 study conducted by UKG revealed that bosses have a more pronounced impact on workers' mental health compared to therapists or doctors.
