Kraken Executive Sues For Pregnancy Discimination

A senior executive at cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has filed a lawsuit alleging she was terminated because of her pregnancy and fertility-treatment plans. According to the New York Law Journal (Law.com, Nov. 10, 2025), the former head of institutional sales claims the company reassigned key responsibilities and sidelined her shortly after she disclosed that she was undergoing IVF and planning to become pregnant.

Bloomberg’s Daily Labor Report also detailed allegations that her role was “significantly diminished” in the months leading up to her termination—changes she says were directly tied to pregnancy-related disclosures rather than performance. Industry commentators told the New York Law Journal that many crypto-sector employers lack mature HR and compliance systems, increasing the risk of mishandling pregnancy-related protections.

The lawsuit asserts violations of federal and state anti-discrimination laws, including the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, arguing that Kraken treated her differently from similarly situated executives once she announced her plans to start a family.

For employers, this case underscores the need for clear governance around pregnancy, IVF and fertility-treatment disclosures. Companies—particularly fast-growing or less regulated sectors like crypto—should ensure that role changes, performance evaluations and leadership decisions are well-documented and insulated from pregnancy-related bias.
